Bucharest Symphony Orchestra (BSO) proudly launches the 6th Edition of the Bucharest International Conducting Masterclass & Competition, Edition VI / MMXXIV and unveils the transition of its educational department from the Bucharest Music Institute (BMI) to the Bucharest Conducting Academy (BCA) with a new identity, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to nurturing and developing the next generation of conductors.
This evolution represents a strategic shift towards providing an enhanced experience for aspiring conductors, offering comprehensive training, career development opportunities, and prestigious collaborations.
With a wealth of experience and expertise, Maestro John Axelrod, the globally renowned artist and Principal Conductor of the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, will serve as a distinguished professor at the Bucharest Conducting Academy International Masterclass, imparting invaluable insights and mentorship to students.
In addition to his role as professor, Maestro Axelrod will also preside as the President of the Jury for the upcoming Edition VI of the Bucharest International Conducting Competition. This esteemed competition, set to take place from July 15 to July 19, 2023, will showcase the talents of emerging conductors from around the world, providing a platform for them to demonstrate their skills alongside the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra.

As part of the Conducting Academy’s 2024 program, Maestro Axelrod will lead the “Take the Tchaikovsky Challenge: Perfecting Your Podium Performance” Masterclass from July 10 to July 15, 2023. This immersive experience, presented in collaboration with the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, will provide participants with the opportunity to refine their conducting techniques, Tchaikovsky’s music challenges and engage with renowned professionals in the field.
The Masterclass will commence with the welcome ceremony on July 10, 2023, at 7:00 PM, marking the beginning of an enriching journey for all participants. Following the Masterclass, the Bucharest International Conducting Competition will commence with the welcome ceremony on July 15, 2023, at 7:00 PM, inviting audiences to witness the culmination of talent and dedication.
